First post for me. Last night I watched the Matrix Reloaded. I also watched the Animatrix. For anyone who doesn't know what the Animatrix is, it's a series of 9 short animations dealing with the matrix, all in different styles. My favorite of them is called "The Second Renaissance", which explains how the machines came to be, and what happened to the human race. I think it's interesting because it actually sounds like a plausible outcome for the future of humanity to me. The fact that it shows that robots can evolve is pretty cool. I mean when you think about it why wouldn't an artificial intelligence be able to evolve. You might say it's because they are just made of metal, and programming for thought, but humans are not so different. We are made up of very specific materials, and have what could be called "biocircuits" running all through out our body. We have DNA which could be called a programming language. A-T-C-G's are the 4 building blocks for life, robots have 0's and 1's. Our bodies also use electricity to regulate heartbeat, or store memories in the brain, or to move any body part of your body. We are just biorobots. In the book "I Robot" by Isaac Asimov, he talks about how robots could evolve. Random bits of code come together and form new things a robot could do.
Another thing about The Matrix I find very interesting is it's philosophical implications of the definition of reality. What is reality? Is it what you are observing right now? How do you know your not dreaming? Dreams can feel like real life sometimes. In The Matrix, reality is simulated by a computer program, but the brain interprets it like it was real. This is because the brain cannot differentiate between what is real or not. Real is just electrical signals being interpreted by your brain. Which is why a dream can feel so real sometimes. A dream is just electrical signals being interpreted by your brain while sleeping. So how do you the reality your currently experiencing is a dream or actual reality, or what if it's The Matrix! There is no way of telling really, we just have to trust that machines aren't using our bodies for energy!
